In western society permanent fetal damage is uncommon (only about 1/500 labours), but the results can be devastating (1). Increasingly there is the push for closer and closer monitoring of the fetus in an attempt to avoid harm. This website aims to concisely describe the concept of fetal distress and summarise the forms of monitoring that can be used during labour.
The topics that will be covered are below and in the pane to the left of the screen. There are also a selection of questions on fetal monitoring which can be attempted to test your knowledge and interpretation of data.
